What are you working on Wednesday!

Because no 5 year olds mermaid party would be complete without their favorite doll being transformed into a mermaid!  I hurriedly knit up this mermaid tail for Harpers Callie.  I used this pattern.  There are some options to do different stitches then the standard stockinette stitch, but I was very pressed for time so I chose what would be the fastest for me.
Harper got a kick out of this and was even more excited that it can be used on her other stuffed animals as well.  Huck has requested one for mousy. So fun!

Five

And then she was five!  Harper has grown to be such a fun little girl and I would normally be sad that she has gotten another year older, but I must confess that I do love this stage, our conversations, real conversations just blow me away.  This girl is so sweet and thinks beyond her years. Just the other day she asked me if police men will still go to heaven, even if the kill a bad guy, because they need to kill the bad guy to protect other people.  I was blown away by this.
She is so sweet and so giving.  Huck fell asleep on the couch the other day and Harper snuck in on her tip toes and set up her sound machine and then tip toed away.   She is a very sensitive girl who usually only needs to be told something once because she hates being in trouble.
She is such a sweet girl who is so passionate about horses and chickens and well probably any animal.  She loves her brothers and dancing.  When she prays she really prays always asking for things for others, such as Fishers teeth to come in a little more gently because they are really hurting him and it has been hard on mom.  No joke this is what she asked for last week.
I am so blessed to be this girls mom.  Something I make a point to tell her ( well all my children) daily.  I feel like I won the lotto with these guys.
     Happy birthday baby girl!

Please excuse my absence the next few days as I am preparing for my oldest child's  birthday.  5 years, I am feeling called to reflect, be and enjoy and that's just what I'll do.  May your next few days be filled with joy and love!  Birthdays really are the best

Lifted

The rain has finally lifted and hopefully our state will get a much needed break from the rain.
I learned a few things about rain these past few days.  First, it is fun to ride your bike in the rain.  It brings you right back to childhood.  It doesn't help that I am riding in the exact neighborhood  that my childhood occurred.  Secondly it is not fun to drive in the rain.  Especially the kind that goes from sprinkle to down pour in the flip of a switch.
Lastly and most important being there is such a thing as to much rain.  A lot of damage has occurred and even some life's lost.  It was a odd storm.  A storm I hope we are done with.  Hope all is well on your side and that the sun shines a little for you as well.

Early

I woke up early this morning after two rough nights.  Determined to get my ride in. I can't see when it rains on my ride and I think this bothers me much more then it should.  While I am enjoying another day of nestled up inside, I have plenty of knitting, sewing and study's to get done.  I don't think the kids feel the same.  Soccer has been canceled, they are so sad and I am too, it is a lot of fun watching them play together.  I am thankful for kids who really do play well together, who love each other so much they can often be found on the field holding hands.  I hope this is a life time bond we are creating here.

What are you working on Wednesdays!

I haven't been able to knit much this week.  We have started soccer and CBS last week so I felt like we were so busy.  Trying to prepare and get everything together is a task!   I did manage to get some knitting done on Fishers vest.  I am hoping to make it to the store this week to get the buttons for this one and Huck's soon.  That has been the hardest transition for me as I became a mother of three children, a quick run into a store for a small errand just doesn't exist.  Everything takes so much longer.  Turtle pace for the Dows and sometimes there is peace in it, I just have to keep reminding myself of that.

Fishing

We have a favorite local spot that we like to take the kids fishing.   It is a real treat for us, so when Huck woke up this morning and said "I have a idea... LETS GO FISHING!!!" we made it happen!  This summer has been so busy, so we haven't made it out to fish all that much.  Most of my time was spent chasing Fisher around but the olders and Alex got a lot of fishing in and kept bringing in a lot of fish.  They do catch and release so Huck was convinced that it was the same fish each time.   "I caught my friend AGAIN!"
There was another group of dads with young kids there fishing too, and every time they would catch a fish, Huck would run over to check it out and cheer them on.  He then would sprint back and give us all the details.  They were fishing with minnows and catching pretty good sized bass while we were fishing with worms and catching little blue gill fish.  On the way home however,  Huck began telling these great stories of him catching the huge fish and the other group only catching the little ones.  So you become a fisherman with fisherman like stories at three.  It starts young.

Simple Saturday

I love seeing other mamas taking good care of their young in nature.  For some reason I find it encouraging.  She was a good mama, standing between us, daring us to cross the fence.

Long one

After a very hard, long day the littlest things are the sweetest reminders.

What are you working on Wednesday!!!

Well, I have finished the body and sleeves of my Bulle.  I must say that this was a true joy to knit.  Just when you got bored with a section something changed to keep it interesting.  It also knit up super fast! Which is a huge plus for me.  I just have the pockets and to choose the buttons left and I am done with time to spare for Harper's Birthday, which never happens .  The only reason it is not fully done is because I have seemed to of lost my size 5 dpns which it calls for, so I will have to go get some more.  This move has been unkind to my knitting stuff.  I really like this pattern and can't wait to knit myself one of these.  If Harper want another one, I wouldn't hesitate for even a minute to make one.
I also started another pebble vest for Fisher.  I am hoping that it will fit this time.  It looks a little small.  Last time I thought it looked just right and it ended up being so big Huck got to keep it.  Maybe I am right on the money this time!  I love this pattern and may or may not have the pattern memorized because I have knitted it so much!
I think it must be the weather but I have been so excited about knitting again.  I love this simple craft so much.  It is truly my therapy, even though most people think I am crazy for saying so.
Please join the lovely Ginny and the other awesome ladies for yarn along today.  While you are at it send her a encouraging note.  She is have some significant pain with two months of pregnancy still to go!  I know this situation all to well, little notes do help.   Even if they are from a complete stranger!

End of summer

Usually I go kicking and screaming at the end of summer.  I love summer time. However, after a long weekend in the sun, I must confess that I am thankful for a early sunset.  The kids are in bed just a tad earlier and I am looking forward to a season of just a tad more rest.
